My Iron Phi Story
Daniel Peterson - Biking for ALS Research
If we spend even a few minutes together, I hope you'll immediately discover these two things: I'm all about loving people and making this life an adventure. I'm setting off on a crazy adventure that'll take me all over the greater Seattle area, and hopefully have a powerful impact on a disease that affects thousands of new people every year.
Over 5000 people are diagnosed with ALS every year, and it breaks my heart to see the lives of incredible people altered by such an invasive disease. As a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, this disease drastically changes the lives of those it affects, and makes everyday living extremely difficult. The disease's progressive degeneration of the spinal neurons across the body slowly affect even the simplest of movements, with ALS eventually causing the death of those it affects. I want to see everyone get the chance to experience this life and all of its beauty, so I'm setting out to do my part to help raise support for its research in hopes of finding a cure!
As part of fundraising, I will be biking 1000 miles over the next few months in hopes of raising a thousand dollars for ALS research in support of the Live Like Lou Foundation! I'm extremely passionate about solving problems and bringing people together in community, as well as seeing the lives of people changed for the better. A valiant cause deserves an equally-formidable challenge, and I'm excited to see how my efforts can help make an impact on communities of people living with ALS all across the country. The net proceeds from my campaign will support ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) research, education, screening and treatment.
I'm setting a goal of raising $1000 for ALS research by the end of June, and I think that together we can create a meaningful impact. I'm extremely stoked to get out on every road, trail, and path I can find to knock out these thousand miles, and I'm hoping you're just as excited as I am! How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
